Dear Friends:
Welcome to the Make Consumer Affairs Better circle.
This circle brings together citizens of India in a community and enables them to share various challenges faced by them as a Consumer with various Brands, Products, Service Providers and Businesses.
The objective is to create awareness in the citizen community as well collectively drive accountability and better consumer experiences. Collective inputs from this circle will be shared with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs on a regular basis.
Through this post, I request you to identify industries in India where you as a consumer have faced challenges. Do share your experiences.
Once we go through this exercise, we will go industry by industry to understand the challenges/issues, identify root causes and solutions.
These will be structured in the form of a whitepaper and shared with the Industry as well as Government to bring about regulations, processes and positive change for the Consumer in India.

I am facing a problem with internet service provider YOUBROADBAND. I discontinued their service because I was very unhappy with their service. I returned their modem in March but have still not received my refund of deposit which they take at the time of installing the service. I have been following up with them which is costing me (phone charges) but of no avail. They do not have a toll-free number.

General Insurance companies refuse claims for the flimiest of reasons compelling consumers to approach Ombudsman or Consumer Forums. The IRDA makes Rules but is toothless in face of total by Insurance companies.

Insurance Sector -Bad Experience My Friend had Insurance with computer with full coverage. One day Motherboard was faulty & rs 800 would be the cost of repairs, But Friend chose to claim for insurance. Company take faulty board New board was fitted worth 3600/- at that time. The claim was refused as there was clause that claims under Rs5000/- will not be under cover. virtually every part comes except CPU under 5000 & CPU don't damage that easily. After very large quarrel with company they gave some 1200/- which was less than premium amount at that time. Thus company cheated my friend by not disclosing term properly, not giving service, loss of working time & mental sufferings along with financial loss.
