Where is women's safety?
Specially on days of revelery like holi, new year eve incidents are caught in camera and we are all outraged ,hard hitting statements ,discussions are on TVs.
As a common citizen I agree with others that our mind set about women should change whether in rural, urban or semiurban settings .There is a whole lot of bias of conservatives versus liberals regarding dressing of women ,Indianness etc etc.
But men continue to mis behave whether they are city bred, rural, drunk or not drunk .Law enforcing agencies are making good efforts in cities like Hyderabad police are using SHE teams to nab Eve teasers ,molesters but it is difficult to eradicate .
Solutions like teaching unarmed combat, pepper spray, emergency apps on mobiles are being tried. But sporadic incidents are happening.
My considered opinion is to go one step radical ,bold and with caution.
With all strong steps like increSing punishments ,severity of punishment by amending Crpc, more are required.
One very strong recommendation is a pilot study in group of educated working women's group.Like soft ware industry in one city cluster, provide all mobile app, train in weapons shooting in a recognized school, provide certificate of passing ,conduct a psychological test ,provide small arms at cost and licence them, and see how it goes for six months .If it works we can cause a small ripple in the community .
The fear of weapon being used by woman in need us a good deterrent as a last resort, but other alternates remains like self defence ,pepper spray .
The GOI and state home departments must try it as a pilot study to able bodied ,fit women who can thwart the attempt of would be offender .
I read in a article that in Korea a new gel containing gun like or flashlight like structure is fired on the offender and some synthetic gel gets sprayed on him and forms a tight web around him thus immobilizing him.
Suggestion are welcome . more
