Mentioning Retail prices including transportation and profit margin would help keep the wholesale price also in control.Taking a Cue from Andhrapradesh where retail prices are mentioned in Mandi helps against profiteering. more
Though whole sale prices are shown in the attached list, the actual prices wholly depend on demand and supply position. Moreover, fruits and vegetables are highly perishable and therefore, the retailers have to fix their retail prices taiking this fact into account. As such, the retail prices of perishable items may not be in commensurate with our expectations. more
I second your thoughts, Kanchan. It will help build up consumer resistance, if every DM follows such notification. This should be mandatory. People will know the ruling wholesale price on a day to day, if the same is given wide publicity. They will estimate an approximate cost of local transport and profit and then decide on buying the items. If found inappropriate, boycotting the purchase till the retailer is compelled to reduce the price. The trader will realise this only when it hurts him, not otherwise. more
The suggestion of the agricultural ministry providing the retail sale of vegetables and fruits is excellent. If implemented in right ernest, it will bring down the spiralling prices in the open market. more
As Mr. I J Jain stated rightly that concerned authorities are busy in much more important jobs related to Covid19, these small and big merchants/traders are taking undue advantages. Also, they do not issue any payment receipt so that one can take action in future. One alternative is there, approach police for help, if they provide, and file a case. more
