Why do Airlines have to charge "Convenience Fee" when we book an Air ticket online?

This is absolutely ridiculous & beyond comprehension. When the Traveller goes to the Online portal of a Travel site or An Airline site, a convenience fee is levied in addition to the Air fare which includes everything including Fuel surcharge.

What is not understandable is why a customer is being further fleeced by charging a Convenience Fee which is in the range of Rs.500/- per ticket?

Is this not unethical, obnoxious ,when the traveller takes all the trouble to execute the process of booking the ticket on his own?

But what is not possible to assimilate is the fact that AAI or the Ministry of Aviation is a mute spectator to this ,yet another unfair trade practice? more

The Passengers travelling from Nagpur to Muscat via Mumbai by INDIGO Airlines. 1. There is a huge gap in connecting from Mumbai to Muscat. A waste of time. 2. The Passengers has to go to Domestic Air Port and then to International AirPort by their own means of Transport say a Private Taxi which charges approx. INR 600 - 700. There is an harrasement to Passengers to Cary their kids along with the Luggage Outside the AirPort. The Problem is the same while coming back from Muscat to Nagpur via Mumbai of Private Taxi. A year ago AVG was taking care of these Transport but now without reducing the Fare they have stopped this facility. For a Foreigner its a Poor show. Will the Ministry of Air Aviation and Cargo will take care of the above Issue. more
Luggage weight in Air going Abroad. There is variation in Luggage weight allowed by different Airways of 20 kg ( Indigo in India max. 30 Kg travelling from Oman to India and vice versa and say A flight of Bangladesh max. 50Kg. from Oman to Bangladesh and vice versa. From India I have travelled to Muscat for four to five times from Mumbai and found that the Air authority is restricting the Passengers for overweight luggage say it may be two to three kilo in excess. But I observed that many of the Passengers found are of Labour Category and they wont have much luggage say approx. 10 -13 Kg Max. So if the Passengers who are carrying the luggage in excess by 2-3 kg why they are Penalised for this. Mostly such Passengers are Indians going Abroad for meeting their Relatives. Now my point is that--- As they are Indians and Carrying these Luggage for NRE/NRI the weight should be allowed without Surcharge. Reason being the material of the Luggage good is the produce of India for which Government is getting Taxes as Sale Tax, Indian labour to get Job, the business that has been done in India. Lastly there is No Problem of overall "Over weight to the Flight". Its a help to NRE/NRI citizens of India to save their money. Our Leaders are Saying Be Indians Bye Indian. Help each others more

Computerization was expected to reduce expenses and provide better and cheaper services but the reality is different. Banks charge SMS charges. But many telecom companies are giving free and unlimited SMSs. Some times SMSs were not sent by bank in the name of load on server. When charging people is it not duty of the bank to send when load reduces. Similarly the case of convenience fee. more
