Why jallikattu agitation now and not earlier ?

Would mass jallikattu agitation have happened if Ms. Jayalalitha were to be the Chief Minister? How she would have handled it?

Jallikattu issue has been hanging fire in Tamil Nadu for several years now. But, the state has never witnessed this sort of mass agitation demanding jallikattu.

In a state like Tamil Nadu, with around 700 lakh population, even if 0.1 % of the population (70000 people) join the agitation, it would be termed as mass agitation.

Many people wonder why this mass agitation has happened now and not earlier when Ms. Jayalalitha was the Chief Minister. The issue remained the same earlier and now and therefore, the emotions should have been the same earlier and now.

Can anyone explain this? Can we simply accept the theory that mob rule takes place when governance weakens ?

I think it is wise to leave out Jallikattu at this juncture and take other major issues that were part of the demands- Cauvery water, farmers grievances, water scarcity likely in some weeks from now and Connect Ganga Cauvery plans Cooum cleaning etc., more
Mr Jagannathan Venkatesan is completely wrong. He feels People protest is wrong or Jayalalitha keeping this matter under her carpet is right. I am in Chennai , witnessed & there is no political party allowed inside including DMK. As a citizen wanting democracy needs to support these kind of movement as the political class was challenged , stating such view says the fellow is one sided , party worker more
The opposition party want to use this sentiment and weaken the strength of the ruling government. This serious agitation to this proportion would not be definitely there as previous CM with her leadership role will not allow to this extent. more
I feel under Jayalalitha regime , protest is not possible. Not because she was a good, understanding leader but an undemocratic person. The way in which she kept party members is an example. She would have taken this agitation to her advantage for sure. This protest has given few points : 1. The politician can no longer enjoy the respect if they do not do good. 2. People can question them 3. The leadership in TN is weak. more
Thank God today MS Jayalalitha is not there otherwise even on the first day with the help of police and party workers intruded the crowd and created law and order problem artificially. She never accepted any type of agititatipn democratic or undemocratic during her rule. Also she did not do anything for this cause earlier when many say she was intelligent. more
