Why Modi govt. allow skyrocketing price ?

WHY MODI GOVT. ALLOW SKYROCKETING PRICE OF ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES ?

In recent months, the prices of essential commodities such as pulses, edible oil and even vegetables have been skyrocketing. House rents are soaring.

While it may be true that the recent drought like conditions in some part of the country has marginally affected the production, it certainly does not justify such steep increase in the prices which is hitting the common man hard.

Modi government is being blamed for it’s inability to control the prices. It is said that it’s decision to increase the cess on the service tax two times in a short period has also contributed to the price rice.
Obviously, the price increase is due to hoarding of the essential commodities by the traders and speculators. The market intelligence capability of Modi government appears to be very poor and it seems to be knowing the steep price increase when you and I come to know about it.

The ground reality is that the hoarders and traders and speculators are not afraid that Modi government would take any stringent action against them. They now seem to have a field day and are minting profits while the helpless common men are fleeced.

It is just not clear as to why Modi government is not acting strongly against such hoarders and their whereabouts cannot remain unknown to the government.

Of course, the inept and somewhat corrupt state governments also do not play their role well in unearthing the hoarded commodity. But, Modi government is not finding fault with the state governments for their failure.

In any case, the price rice of the essential commodities is now hanging like a Democle’s sword on Modi government.

SCARCITY OR EXCESS PRODUCTION OF ANY COMMODITY DEPENDS UPON RAIN AND WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE PRICES RISE OR FALL DUE TO THIS. THE GOVT. CAN ONLY ENSURE THAT THE MIDDLEMAN DO NOT JACK UP THE PRICES AND HOARDERS DO NOT HORDE TO MAKE UNDUE PROFITS. MANY A TIMES IT HAPPENS THAT THE ONIONS, POTATOES ARE SELLING AT LESS THAN A RUPEE PER KG IN THE STATES WHERE THE VEGETABLES ARE PRODUCED AND FARMERS ARE NOT GETTING REASONABLE RATES FOR THE PRODUCE. ON THE OTHER HAND THE SAME COMMODITY IS SELLING AT HUGE RATES OF ABOUT RS. 20 PER KG IN METRO CITIES. THE MIDDLE MEN ARE EATING THE WHOLE PROFIT AT THE COST OF PRODUCER AND THE CONSUMER. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AND GOVT. BOTH STATE AND CENTRAL SHOULD STEP IN TO ENSURE FAIR TREATMENT TO BOTH. GOVT./QUASI GOVT. AGENCIES LIKE FCI, NAFARD, SAFAL, AMUL, MOTHER DAIRY, DMS ETC SHOULD STEP IN TO COLLECT THE CROP AT REASONABLE MINIMUM PRICE FROM THE FARMERS, WHOREHOUSE/COLD STORE IT AND SELL TO THE CONSUMERS AT REASONABLE RATES. IN INDIA THE WAREHOUSING/ COLD STORAGE CAPACITY ALSO NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED TO SAVE THE FOOD FROM GETTING SPOILED DUE TO RAINS AND POOR STORAGE. IF WE ARE ABLE TO SAVE THIS WASTAGE, NO BODY IN INDIA WILL BE HUNGARY. GOVT. NEEDS TO DEVELOP MORE AND MORE STORAGE FACILITIES IN ALL AREAS AND ENCOURAGE PRIVATE PARTNERS TO JOIN IN THE EFFORT UNDER PPP SCHEMES. LET US ALL PLEDGE THAT WE WILL ENSURE THAT NO FOOD IS WASTED. THIS WILL CHECK THE PRICES AND NO BODY WILL SLEEP HUNGRY. more
This analysis is absurd these price rise are common phenomenon every year whenever season changes and it remains for few weeks only then prices get stabilizes automatically, we have seen this trend for many years... this unnecessary hue and cry is because of opposition and their slaves in media houses who don't even show actual prices on ground... I don't understand if prices of one commodity has increased somehow I feel people want to buy that specific commodity only during that period as if they can't live with out that... lower the demand and you'll see prices coming down... Regarding cess if you see the increase, that is negligible and some people are crying like they have lost all their money in that, what rubbish... Keeping check on hoardings is a responsibility of state govt's what happen to AAP govt they also used to say, if they win they will not let prices increase in Delhi... are prices in Delhi less compared to other parts of Delhi... more
There is no unison between Central and State Govts. to control price rise though it is discussed and debated on various forums/platforms. Drought like situations, imports etc are mere excuses to cover up but the fact is there is no proper policy/system to control price rise. Bureaucracy will have to contribute meticulously to evolve firm policy and its implementation. more
Modi Govt. is not responsible for commodity prices it is state matter, however if there is scarcity of any commodity that can be imported by central govt. It is well known that tendency of hoarding by middlemen and make money still prevails and state govt.are responsible to keep tap on such hoarders. Central Govt. manages to import short commodities & export surplus commodities. more
Modi Govt. is trying to help farmers discover a right price by connecting mandis through an e-portal. This might also be able to control big speculators to some extent. Though many economists believe speculation in certain ways, helps create an efficient market. What we need is basically a big leap in agri-output of our major crops as well as incentivising crop diversity. Another point, this govt. is trying its best to check money-supply in the economy through better fiscal management & plugging leaks, without much curtailment on necessary welfare schemes. These efforts are laudable for controlling inflation. more
