Why we should pay for every seat on airplane

Why are airlines now charging passengers for every single seat over and above flight ticket? What is the flight ticket for, to hang by the wheel and travel? Not talking about chargeable front seats, this is every seat. What does the ticket include then, nothing??

Can LocalCircles please take this up with the aviation ministry or whatever ministry of the Govt. more

I have no personal interest in airlines industry, but frankly, it's mostly not a profitable business. We should look at them from the angle of viability for both the owners and clients. We may avoid travelling by air if we find it too costly. They may not charge extra for seats, if we say no preference. more
Airlines earlier were under monopolised by Indian Airlines and a few others could charge an amount that made air travel, a luxury possible for the rich only. Private players like Jet and Air Deccan, to name a few, then entered into the fray, making this a monopsony for customers, and market forces rendering flights more affordable. However, too much flights entail environmental costs too. Balance happens one way or another. So just as well that charges go up, for environment's sake. more
Do you think that the airlines alone are the culprits? We, the passengers are also equally responsible for encouraging the airlines to charge extra bucks in the name of allocation of seats of the passengers' choice. What if I don't get a window side seat or a front side seat? In fact we are always in the run to get extra advantage over others in every field and that makes the difference. Let all of us (the passengers in this case) avoid to select a seat of our choice at the time of booking the tickets and get a seat allocated over the counters while checking in. Its sure for certain that no passengers will be carried onboard without offering a seat. Its the responsibility of the airlines to allocate a seat to every passenger on board. For every issue let us avoid to depend on the government and/or the related ministry, while the issues could be conveniently settled by ourselves. more
The policy of charging separately for seats is a waste of time. The airlines must integrate this option while booking the ticket. No one can fly without a seat, but a lot of time is wasted on this dual booking/check-in/payment and tracking mechansim. So much time, money , transactions, can be saved. Airlines will not be at a loss. more
Yadavendra Singh proof of real illegal work is loot. You are not China. You already have government run transportation that is not up to international standards in many ways and bringing down private air travel for what you want is not governments business. more
