WILL METTUR DAM OVER FLOW ?

With the inflow into Mettur Dam exceeding one lakh cusecs per day on a few days, the water level in the dam rapidly increased to 110 ft. While the dam capacity is 120 ft., it cannot be allowed to hold water beyond 115 ft. If the inflow would happen again at 1 lakh cusecs per day for one or two days this week, even the discharge of water from Mettur dam will not be enough to prevent over flow.

The next question is as to whether the rapid release of water from the dam will create flooding and lead to wastage of water into sea.

One is not sure whether Tamil Nadu government has thought about such eventuality.

It appears that Tamil Nadu government has no strategy to deal with deficit or surplus water in the Cauvery delta.

Politicians of Tamil Nadu have no time to think of the people. They only want to safe-guard their interests. Ultimately the people are the sufferer. more
Chennai suffers from frequent water scarcity often. During the deluge of 2015 the authorities could not help preventing inundating all the areas of water bodies converted to developed plots for housing. The entire surplus water was allowed to reach the sea.It did not occur to them that there should be a plan to conserve surplus water for rain deficient years.Same planning is required for farm lands in Tamil Nadu.Has any political parties thought on these lines. Why should we blame Karnataka for not giving water every year. more
