Going by my knowledge of the incident that has occurred in an MNC, it was a quid-pro-quo situation. The lady refused her directors physical advances and was tortured as long as she was working in the company. The company's directors were in support of each other. The company neither had CCTV cameras in the office nor a Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) which was formed after the lady raised complaint before the Labour Commissioner. However during the course of ICC investigation, she was fired at about 3am and tortured to resign. When she declined and called police, she was sent home by company transport. The following day a police complaint was registered after much persuasion, however even after providing the necessary documents concerning harassment,no proper investigation was made and case was closed. Now the issue is pending before the courts while the productive life of the lady is getting wasted for protesting against the atrocities of her company's management. The MNCs/ companies need to work on sensitization of the issue and should have trained and professional teams to handle such issues unbiased and with all due seriousness followed by necessary disciplinary action against the guilty. If such issues are reported to the police, they need to have a separate team within the police station to handle such issues by looking into details and taking brisk action against the offenders instead of trying to convince the victims or ignoring the case. Respective government departments will have to ensure all the guidelines against exploitation are enforced in an organisation. Society has to develop an open mind and not target the victims of this social evil for reporting the issue as they would already be would be suffering both physically and intellectually. more
Sexual harassment or the misuse of laws on it, both stem largely from the same root - lowering moral values in society. Improvements in law and its implementation with efficient use of technology can help to an extent, but the major control in our conditions will ultimately be social. more
Sexual harassment in working places are due to (1) Perverted colleagues (2) Not the strict Management (3) Some ladies wear dresses with more body exposure (4) Fewer number of ladies are working (5) The people are from the uncultured families who tend to harass the ladies etc. Solutions (1) Strict discipline (2) Strict dress code (3) CCTV at every nook & corner to install (4) During recruitment family background should be one consideration (5) If the ladies are working after the office closure , the security should be strict with possibilities of Lady security more
