Would National Anti-profiteering Authority turn up as a burden on tax payers money.
"The National Anti-profiteering Authority (NAA) is the institutional mechanism under GST law to check the unfair profit-making activities by the trading community. The Authority’s core function is to ensure that the benefits of the reduction is GST rates on goods and services made by GST Council and proportional change in the Input tax credit passed on to the ultimate consumers and recipient respectively by way of reduction in the prices by the suppliers."
While I myself had submitted a complaint of a restaurant under profiteering in November 2017 supported by a complete analytical report and related documents resulting into an increase in prices by more than 30% on an average just on the very next day on implementation regime on GST despite a fact that the prices would have fallen down by more than 10%, no action seems to have been taken. Those who are interested in pursuing the details may like to visit my blog.
Visit to their website indicates just 4 orders pronounced since its inception that too none of the complaint of profiteering upheld. Nothing to be commented on the perusal of the orders. However, we can always comment upon the functioning of the Authorities and in my gut feeling if the complaint of the restaurant could not be perused for almost 10 months, it may turn out to be a burden on tax payers money. Even this circle had reported many times that the traders/ builders are not passing on the benefit of input tax credit or reduction in GST rates. I am just wondering whether any complaint has been studied on suo-motto basis pro-actively at least to justify its own setup and its existence or else it may also lead to believe as an eye-wash set up at tax payers money just to please and accommodate few bureaucrats.
I plan to raise some other issues under RTI Act. I would solicit views of members of this community with their inputs specially in case any of the member has filed any complaint of profiteering. more
