As per my experience, all passengers and not aware of the biotoilets. Many don't flush after use. I have seen toilets in the morning full of shit and urine. This indicated that the people using in night have not used flush at all. Also, no one to guide. The sweeper on duty must have rounds in the night (2 to 3 times) to ensure that toilets are clean and dry. Further, many times the flush does not work properly and one has to use emergency flush. The maintenance team must do a good job for repair of flush system..... Going back to conventional toilet system is not a good idea.... My experience in train is in Rajdhani / 2 Tier AC. I can imagine the problems are more in 3AC and Sleepers and in other trains ..... Changing the culture is time consuming...... more
Next step could be to modify it like toilets in aeroplanes. Vacuum suction . But in our Indian conditions, passengers of all class are not used to any such toilets. Even under the present toilets also it smells so badly. People by and large make every where so dirty, spilling water on toilet floors, spit, never or randomly flush the toilets, eating lot of garlic, onions food n then urinate, don't flush .The western type Comodes have no seats, even in there also if seat is fitted, they don't care to lift it before using it for urinating. I failed to understand, n cannot immagine how women travelers can goin such bad toilets. Any amount of money spent all goes to drain n some whimsical stray idea of fitting biotoilets. While the trains are on the platform, inspite of cation notice " Don't use toilets while train is on the platform" passengers ignore that also. It spoils the track on the platforms, one cannot stand there due to bad smell. more
Bio toilet project is a big failure. The cleaning system of these toilets should be in the yard. Moreover during the journey it is always full of shit. Still no one knows how and where it will get cleaned. At least in earlier system it were used to be cleaned in intermediate important stations through pressure cleaning. more
