Zero GST on Foods
Food items are divided into category with different tax slab on it. Food is something vital for every living being yet it is tax. These categories tells me if I am rich so I can afford nutritious food. These categories tells me that if am not rich I cannot buy the nutritious food. So tax system contradicts the campaign to make Indian citizens healthy. We all know our population is price sensitive. When we go to market we have to decide whether we should buy Rs 10, 20, or 50 worth for same items. Different price for same items is comprise to quality, compromise to nutrition values. Lots of times when we compare ourselves to other countries where food is at affordable price, and is accessible to everyone. We have no choice buy comprise because of price. At least making zero tax on food would give majority of people great encouragement to live healthy life.
Secondly, by creating such categories with tax , we are creating differences in Society. Creating differences in society is one of the root cause of quarrels in daily life. Most of the time we spent is to quarrels that de-accelerates the growth on entire country. We say something to someone, and quarrel start that is what is on TV channels. more

major essential food items as unbranded cereals and others are tax free. tax is not there on many items of general people use or average people buy. food is not nutritious by brand it just affects aroma,packing,some time quality etc . so some rich if eating costly rice ,wheat is not getting much nutrition than normal ones except packing,aroma etc. so its not making any categorization. more

It is psychology issue . Rich want to show off and buy same or similar item costly .that is the reason all companies have a different item for this stuff of society and earns more same is issue with govt.that is why it charge highest slab on 5 Star .so that Rich gets satisfied that he is in heigh standard of living more

At present, there are four GST rates- 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% on food items. Restaurants without a/c falls under 12% category, restaurants having a/c and restaurants serving liquor come under 18%, five star hotels are under the 28% slab and restaurants that come under the composition scheme can charge 5% GST. Nothing is wrong, if GST is charged on star hotels and restaurants serving liquor. But the aam aadhmi should not suffer. Charging tax on food items is nothing but hitting the common man in his stomach and will make the Government quite unpopular. Let us appeal to the Government to spare the common man by waiving the tax on food items served in restaurants not serving alcohol. more
