Zomato pathetic service and FSSAI lame attitude
On July 24, 2019, I ordered a 500-gram cake from Zomato on my sister's birth anniversary which turned out to be 400 grams in real, including its cardboard base. I complained to Zomato Support and later to the shop owner but nothing happened.
I found that the shop was selling goods without a license and that there were two shops on the same address selling the same as a bakery.
On 1 August, I submitted a complaint to FSSAI where it was written that you will get your reply within 30 days. But to date, there is no answer.

After that, I saw in Zomato that the shop had taken its 1-year license which has validity till 5 September 2020( starting from 5 September 2019).
If the FSSAI would have taken an action, the shop would have faced a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
I even contacted the Instagram handle of FSSAI but I did not get any positive response and just lame excuses.
1. I want to ask the community what can I do?
2. Should I file an RTI?
3. Doesn't Zomato display the license number on the shop page?
4. Is there any law on Online food companies? If yes, Can u send the link?
I have seen many times license is not displayed on the shop pages.
One of the objectives of this answer is to make everyone aware. When you order something from Zomato or other, first check the license of that shop and *in case* you have ordered any *weighing* item then do definitely check its weight. more

First get proper address of FSSAI office. Then write to the Information officer. Ask them to intimate the licence no. of Zomato on the date you placed the order and the date it was supplied. You can ask this as an information and they are bound to give within 30 days. Please do not ask any questions but ask as an information because RTI act does not permit you to ask questions. You can call for any information. Since Zomato had no licence on the date they supplied food to you, you can take up the matter with authorities once you get an official information from FSSAI regarding licence held by Zomato. more

I have not yet generated enough confidence to order food stuffs online. We still have a very poor compliance redressal mechanism. What is the fun of going fron pillar to post for online services. Complaints too shall be redressed swiftly online. more

First file an application under RTI to FSSAI and take further action based on their reply. It is clear that on the day Zomato supplied the material to you, they had no licence. You can bring the matter to the notice of concerned Ministry. more

Home made foods are much tastier and healthy. If at all any one wants to celebrate their important events in western manner, personal procurement of the short listed items from the shops concerned would leave no scope for complaint. more
